The General English Course will help you to improve your all-round ability in English. Our aim is to increase your confidence in your day-to-day use of the language. Students who initially enrol on the General English course may later progress to an examination preparation course, such as IELTS or FCE.

All courses are taught in small classes and focus on the key skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The programme of study is easy to follow with students learning quickly and thoroughly. Once able, you can progress to the next level of General English.

Individual attention

A key to successful learning is the amount of individual attention a student gets from their teacher. When classes are smaller everyone benefits and this is why our General English classes have an average of a maximum of 8 students*. You will work closely with your teacher and classmates using a wide range of materials.

Course structure

If you choose a 15 hour course you will study English every morning, Monday to Friday between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. You will follow a course book provided by Celtic.

If you choose a course of 18, 21 or 24 hours you will also study in the afternoons (See further details on Afternoon Electives).

Our afternoon programme is designed to give training and extra practise in developing the skills you need most or find most difficult. They can help balance your all-round ability, or just give you more of what you enjoy most!

Course Assessment

Your progress through the levels of proficiency is based on your improvement, class participation, homework and academic reports. Most students progress by one level every term.
Teachers will regularly talk to every student about their progress. There are small weekly tests, a half term test and an end of term test. A formal course report is written at the end of your course.
